About Us
India Prison Portal is the first of its kind unified collaborative platform which brings together the different stakeholders through a knowledge hub.
Our team originated at an event that facilitated open discussions and interactions with formerly incarcerated individuals. The event was an eye-opener, revealing the sheer magnitude of the problem. Despite our experience in the domain, we realized that incarcerated people often come from impoverished backgrounds, and their valuable lived experiences are largely unheard. The lack of interaction with stakeholders like civil society, government officials, researchers, and lawyers makes solutions unidimensional. This realization sparked our quest to create a platform to bridge the information gap and enable collaborative advocacy.
This knowledge hub hosts an evolving repository of all old and new research, best practices, literature, art and data on the prison system in India. It brings together prison administrators, researchers, government officials, civil society organizations, prisoners, and the common people to share and create content.
Through such a repository, IPP facilitates a bridge between organizations, between people, and between research and practice to ultimately push the boundaries of how we think about prisons; how we regulate prisons; and how we see prisoners in our country.
