An Interview with Sukanya Shanta

In this inteview, Pulitzer Centre speaks to Sukanya Shantha, from The Wire about her research project 'Barred; The Prisons Project', a five-part thematic reporting of prison issues and prisoner experiences. Amongst the five reports prepared, one of the reports concerns the role of caste system inside the prisons. She provides some insights into that report while she also talks about the tendency in mainstream Indian media to cover prison issues only in context of high profile political prisoners. This project also publishes stories on extreme living conditions, lack of medical care and legal support, and violence within the system. Stories of prisoners and the system will be collected using different mediums — audio, video, written.
