To address the mental health challenges faced by prisoners during the pandemic, the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) has developed a module for prisons across India. Lockdowns and restricted access to families increased the risk of self-harm among inmates. The module, titled "Dealing with Mental Health Issues in Prisoners during COVID-19," emphasizes stress management for prisoners. NIMHANS collaborated with prison professionals and clinical experts to create the handbook. The module encourages prison staff to be supportive, offers self-care practices for prisoners, and addresses mental health stress related to COVID-19 in prisoners and their families.
